Robert Joseph Nichols Sr

It is with great sadness that the family of Robert “Bob” J. Nichols, Sr. announces his passing on Sunday, September 9th, at the age of 84 years old. Bob is lovingly missed by his wife, Shirley of 62 years and his son, Bob, Jr. and daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Jack, and his grandchildren, Ryan and Cait.
Bob was born in West Springfield, MA and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Nissen Baking Company in 1991.
He served for many years on the East Longmeadow 4th of July parade committee and Holyoke St. Patrick’s parade committee and built floats with the Springfield St. Patrick’s parade committee. He took great pride as a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus; where he served for several years as Grand Knight in his local chapter 2212 and worked diligently on several state committees.
Calling hours will be held from 4:00PM – 7:00PM on Friday (Sept. 14, 2018) in the Forastiere Smith Family Funeral Home, 220 North Main Street, East Longmeadow.
Funeral services begin at 8:45AM on Saturday (September 15, 2018) from the funeral home.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 1023 Parker St., Springfield. Rites of Committal will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Road, Springfield.
