Mafalda Carra, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away on December 4, 2019, a week shy of her 102nd birthday, at the Jewish Nursing Home with her caring family by her side. Born in Springfield, she was one of six children. Her parents are the late Carlos and Carmella (Tranghese) Aschettino. Muffy, as her family and friends called her, worked for Hamilton Standard before retiring. Family was most important to Muffy, as she cherished the weekly Sunday dinners at her house, and creating the tradition of family time spent together in Old Lyme, CT. She and her husband Anthony enjoyed traveling and trying their luck at the casino. Muffy is predeceased by her husband Anthony Carra, who passed away in 1993. She is survived by her six beloved children: Gary Carra and his wife Margaret of Somers CT, Anthony Carra and his wife Maryann of Somers CT, Ronnie Carra and his wife Paula of Somers CT, Ricky Carra and Lori Courville of Enfield CT, Joan Hornbuckle and her husband Robert of Springfield MA, and Patricia Merriam and her husband John of White Lake, MI; her adored fifteen grandchildren: Lisa, Robert, John, Michael, Craig, Gary, Brian, Scott, Brett, Nick, Jennifer, Vincent, Sheri, Adam, and Brandon; and her eighteen cherished great-grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, Muffy was predeceased by her brother Carlos Aschettino and her sisters: Margaret Planzo, Marie Aschettino, Marjorie Roy and Ella Cucco. A celebration of Muffy’s life will begin with visiting hours on Friday, December 6, 2019 from 5 – 8 PM at Forastiere Smith Funeral & Cremation on 220 N. Main Street in East Longmeadow. It will continue on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 8:45 AM at the funeral home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 AM in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Springfield, MA followed by burial in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Springfield, MA.
