Obituary

Louis M. DeChristopher, 76, of Feeding Hills, sadly passed away on Monday, February 22, 2021 with his loving daughters by his side. Born in Springfield, he was the beloved son of the late Frank and Genevieve (Matyja) DeChristopher. He graduated from Technical High School and was proud to serve in the U.S. Army National Guard for 6 years. At 18, Lou started his career in the Hamilton Standard School of Drafting & Engineering. He was a Draftsman with over 47 years of service to Hamilton Sunstrand / Collins Aerospace, and was still currently working from home. He loved his profession and was very well respected as a mentor and relied upon for his vast knowledge in the field. In his younger years, he displayed his love of music by playing bass guitar and keyboard for his band “The Treblos” where one of their recordings had radio play. He enjoyed creating and playing in many men’s softball leagues as well as tennis. Family was an important part of Lou’s life. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play the sports they love and attending band concerts. He was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Parish in Feeding Hills. Lou is survived by his three daughters, Gina Hodovanec and her husband, Daniel, Diane D’Amours and her husband Alan, Amber DeChristopher and her boyfriend Matthew Hayslett, all of Feeding Hills; his seven grandchildren: Caleb, Rhiannon, and Samuel Hodovanec, and Derek, Nicholas, Meghan and Jessica D’Amours; his former wife, Donna (Jorgensen) DeChristopher; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Virginia Giacomelli and Doris Mack. A celebration of Louis’ life will begin with visiting hours on Sunday, February 28, 2021 from 2-5 pm at Colonial Forastiere Funeral Home, 985 Main Street, Agawam. On Monday, March 1, the funeral will begin at 11:45 am at the funeral home followed by a 1:00 pm Liturgy of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church, Feeding Hills. Burial will follow in Springfield Street Cemetery also in Feeding Hills. Donations may be made in Louis’ memory to Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
