Joyce Ann Coughlin

Longmeadow, MA- Joyce Ann Coughlin, 81, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, died October 13, 2019 surrounded by family at Baystate Medical Center.
She was born in Springfield, MA to the late Vincent James and Katherine (Rosso) Mercadante on May 28, 1938. Joyce was a 1956 graduate of Agawam High School where she was head majorette and Miss Agawam for the Agawam Centennial.
Joyce was a bookkeeper for her family business, Standard Wood Projects before she left to raise her family. Later in life she and her husband helped build and develop her son’s dental business, Ascent Dental Care.
Joyce loved her family and was proud of all of her children and grandchildren’s accomplishments. She will be greatly missed for her kind and loving ways. In addition to her parents, Joyce is predeceased by her beloved husband Ralph of 59 years and her brother Louis Mercadante. She leaves her two sons, Dr. Kevin Coughlin and his wife Karen, Dr. Bret Coughlin and his wife Nina, all of Longmeadow; six grandchildren, Dr. Ryan Coughlin and his wife Lindsay, Lindsay Gill and her husband John Paul, Dr. Jared Coughlin, Taylor Coughlin and her finance David Franco, Shane Coughlin, and Shayla Coughlin; five great grandchildren, Luke and Sophie Gill, Olivia, Ellie, and Miles Coughlin; one sister Dr. Dona Mercadante and friend Lois Nesci, three sisters-in-law, MayBeth and Thelma Coughlin, and Marjorie Murray all of Longmeadow; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give special thanks to her very special care givers, Linda Mooney and Laurie Picard.
Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours TODAY, Tuesday, October 15 from 4 – 7 p.m. at Forastiere-Smith Family Funeral Home, 220 North Main Street, East Longmeadow. Joyce’s funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 16 from the funeral home at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at St. Mary’s Church , 519 Longmeadow St., Longmeadow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, West Springfield.
