Obituary

Joseph Mineo, 62, beloved father, husband, brother and friend, died at home on Friday, July 3rd, 2020 surrounded by his loving family after a valiant battle with cancer. Born to the late Joseph Jr. and Patricia Mineo (Santaniello) on August 20, 1957 in Springfield, MA, Joe spent his early years in Forest Park, later graduating from Classical High School and Springfield Technical Community College. Joe helped many through career training at the Massachusetts Career Development Institute and later worked as an Assistant Director of Grant Management at Futureworks. Joe settled in Agawam in 1988 and advocated for the enhancement of his community through his involvement in athletics, local politics and by coaching several youth sports teams; including soccer, basketball and lacrosse. Joe was a twenty-year member of the Agawam City Council and a recipient of multiple awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Agawam Democratic Committee in recognition of his faithful service.  Joe loved spending time, entertaining, and cooking for his family and friends. He also enjoyed vacationing at his lake cottage located in Camp Wellville in Ashburnham. Joe married the love of his life, Anna (Capuano), in 1981 and enjoyed thirty-nine years of marriage. Joe is survived by his wife and their three children whom he was very proud of, Carmino and wife Lauren (Surprenant) Mineo, Luca and wife Briana (Calabrese) Mineo, Joanna Emilia Mineo and companion Salvatore Rimauro; his brother Vincent and wife Tracy Mineo, sister-in law Maria Capuano, nieces Sarah Hedges, Patricia Mineo, Marissa Mineo and Nicole Mineo who predeceased him; nephews Vincent Mineo and Farzad Darouian and many cousins, family members and friends. Joe will always be fondly remembered for being dedicated to his family and friends. He was generous, compassionate and a true gentleman. He was selfless and always put everyone’s needs above his own. Calling hours will be held at Colonial Forastiere Family Funeral Home, 985 Main St., Agawam, MA 01001 on Wednesday July 8th from 2:00 PM- 7:00PM. A funeral service will be held at 10AM on Thursday, July 9th at the funeral home with interment immediately following in St. Michael’s Cemetery, 1601 State St, Springfield, MA 01109.
