Georgina Gonzalez

East Longmeadow – Georgina (Diaz) Gonzalez, 94, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt passed away peacefully on July 4, 2018. She was born in Salinas, Puerto Rico; daughter of the late Fundador and Agustina (Colon) Diaz. Georgina grew up helping her parents on the family farm, as well as in their grocery and clothing stores. Georgina was educated in Puerto Rico and earned her Associates Degree in Business Administration. She was a cafeteria supervisor, and later went on to own and manage Colmado Lapas in Salinas, Puerto Rico. Georgina spent time working at group homes taking care of persons with mental health disabilities. For the past 4 years she was an active participant at the Mercy Life Program. Georgina had the opportunity to live and experience many parts of the world as an "Army Wife", after marrying her husband Lucas Gonzalez. She was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses Longmeadow Congregation. Georgina was a people person who will be greatly missed. She will be remembered for her loving and generous ways by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She leaves her daughter, Myrna Gonzalez of Enfield, CT; 3 grandchildren, Dennise Diaz and her husband Marcos, Myrna Gonzalez-Santiago, and Glorimar Gonzalez-Raices; 4 great-grandchildren, Adriana Diaz, Nicole Diaz, Andres E. Santiago, Lucas M. Santiago; her daughters-in-law, Evelyn Gonzalez of East Longmeadow and Iris Gonzalez of Springfield; as well as many extended family members. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Lucas Gonzalez in 2006; her son Jorge Gonzalez in 2017; 4 brothers; and 4 sisters. Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, July 12th from 4-6:30PM immediately followed by a memorial service at 6:30PM at Forastiere Smith Funeral and Cremation, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow.
