Gail M. Monahan

Gail Mary (Brunette) Monahan, 78, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 16, 2018 at Wingate at West Springfield with her cherished family by her side. Born in Millinocket ME, Gail was one of nine children to her parents Camillo and Evelyn (Gallant) Brunette. She graduated from Stearns High School in 1958. Gail was a wonderful caretaker of everyone and made a fitting choice to pursue nursing. She was a 1960 graduate of Maine School of Practical Nursing; she obtained an Associates Degree from Holyoke Community College and attended Westfield State College. Gail began her career as a nurse in Millinocket and then in many area hospitals in CT and MA including Noble and Mercy Hospitals, retiring in 1986. She was a history buff, enjoyed music, crossword puzzles, knitting, and crocheting. Her greatest joy was her family; she was a mom first before everything and cherished her grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Laird V. Monahan; her caring children Carrie Egerton and her husband Derek of Southwick, Andrew Monahan of Westfield, and Daniel Monahan and his wife Rachel of Pickerington OH; six grandchildren: Katherine, Jessica, Nichole, Daniel, Nicholas and Tyler; seven great-grandchildren; six brothers: Michael, Richard, Vincent, Lawrence, William and David Brunette; and her sister Irene Boynton. Besides her parents, Gail was predeceased by her sister Christine Pooler.

A celebration of Gail’s life will be on Friday, March 23, 2018 beginning with visiting hours from 4:00-5:30pm with a ceremony at 5:30pm at Southwick Forastiere Funeral & Cremation on 624 College Highway in Southwick.
