Florence Dunia

Florence H. (Pappas) Dunia, 94, passed peacefully on November 17, 2020. Born in Holyoke, MA, the daughter of George and Mary (Andriopoulos) Pappas, Flo lived most of her life in East Longmeadow, MA. She married on Thanksgiving Day 1959 and has resided in the same loving home ever since. It’s a home she shared with her husband, Frank, until his passing in 1997 and where together they raised their two children.

Flo worked as an Executive Secretary for Rexnord for many years before working in the East Longmeadow school system until retirement. She was an avid reader who loved biographies, quotations, and poetry. Several of her own poems were published in various publications.
Always dressed in high heels, wearing the latest styles, and fully accessorized, Flo maintained an impeccable sense of fashion throughout her life.

Her family and her faith meant everything to her and was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral. She enjoyed meeting people, going to new places, and making new friends. Known for living life to the fullest, she traveled extensively well into her 80s, making several trips to Europe, including Greece – a lifelong dream of hers.

She is survived by her loving children Paul Dunia and his wife Immacolata of South Windsor, CT, her daughter Lisa Medeiros and her husband Jeff of Annandale, NJ. She leaves four beloved grandchildren, Stephanie Dunia, Ryan Dunia, Christopher Medeiros, and Jake Medeiros. Along with many nieces and nephews, she leaves countless friends and neighbors who loved and adored her.

Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her loving husband Frank C. Dunia, and her siblings, Gus Pappas, Bess Frangus, and Angeline Tougias.

Family and friends are invited to gather at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home located at 220 North Main St in East Longmeadow on Tuesday, November 24th from 4-7pm for a period of visitation. Committal services will be private at the convenience of the family.
