Carol A. Lucia

Springfield – Carol Ann (Bassing) Lucia, 81, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2019 at a local nursing home surrounded by her loving family. Carol was a life-long resident of Springfield and was the daughter of the late George and Bella Bassing. She married her beloved husband, Thomas A. Lucia, in 1956 and they began their own family. She enjoyed ceramics and arts and crafts, and being a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. She had a love for animals, including her faithful companions Bo-Bo and Buddy. Coming from humble beginnings, Carol appreciated the life her husband provided by being able to travel and shop to stay fashionable. Carol had an eye for shoes and pocketbooks. She had a great time with family at the beaches in Cape Cod and Rhode Island. Her time spent on Marco Island were some of the best memories.
She is survived by her husband Tom; her son Thomas Lucia, Jr. and his wife Grace of East Longmeadow, her daughter Lynn Ann Kenney and her husband Brian of Springfield; and three cherished grandchildren Lauren, Steven and Thomas Angelo Lucia. Besides her parents, Carol was predeceased by her adored daughters, Donna Marie and Mary Katherine Lucia.
A celebration of Carol’s life will begin with visiting hours on Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 4:00-7:00pm at Forastiere Smith Funeral & Cremation on 220 N. Main Street in East Longmeadow. The funeral will be Friday, January 25th beginning 8:45am at the funeral home, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Sacred Heart Church on Chestnut Street in Springfield, and burial will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
