Obituary

East Longmeadow- Barbara Ann (Surprenant) Bourque, 91, Ascended Into the Journey of Everlasting Life; on May 19, 2018; surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife for 29 years to the late Raymond J. Bourque who preceded her in 1978.
Barbara was born on Sept. 18, 1926 in New Britain, Connecticut a daughter of the late 
Edward F. and Mary (Bailey) Surprenant. She was educated in the Springfield School System and was a resident of East Longmeadow for 57 years.  Barbara was a parishioner of St. Michael’s Church, East Longmeadow.
 Barbara retired as Deli Manager for Big Y Supermarket, East Longmeadow; working well into her 70’s.   Following her retirement , she and her friend Mary spent  over two months driving cross country; having planned every stop along their journey. 
  She was an avid bowler; having played in a couple’s league with her husband and a 
womens league at Shaker Bowl enjoying the game well into her 80’s. She looked 
forward to attending the annual National Bowling Tournaments with friends, all over the country.
Barbara also enjoyed her trips to Foxwoods; and playing BINGO with her sister Jane and her friend Joyce.
Family was very important to her, especially the Holidays.  She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed playing cards with them. She was known as “G G” to her great grandchildren. 
Barbara was predeceased by a brother, Edward Surprenant Jr; and sisters, Jane Mominee and Marilyn Costa.
She is survived by her beloved children, one son, James Bourque and Debra; five daughters, Kathleen Bourque and Henry, Denise Gibson and Michael, Debbie Fontaine and David, Joan Nadaud, Barbara Fontaine and Jon;  12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; and many extended family.
Barbara's family extends a very special thank you to Trinity Care Hospice, to Nurse Shannon and Aide Selena. A very special thank you also to her niece Diane Frogameni for her loving care. 
  Her funeral services will begin at 8:30AM on Wednesday (May 23) from the Forastiere Family Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow; a Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00AM in St. Michael’s Church, 128 Maple St., East Longmeadow. Rites of Committal will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Road, Springfield.
Her calling hours will take place from 4:00PM-7:00PM on Tuesday (May 22, 2018) in the funeral home.
