Douglas M. McSweeney

SPRINGFIELD – Douglas M. McSweeney, 61, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January
18, 2018. Born in Ludlow, MA on April 27, 1956, he was the son of JoAnne (Yeomans)
McSweeney and the late Edward W. McSweeney. A veteran of the United States Navy, he
proudly served his country from 1975-1977. Doug was an avid golfer, playing as often as
possible with his son. He was also a huge fan of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox.
In the summer, Doug loved spending time outdoors and especially taking trips to Misquamicut
beach. Above all, Doug was the happiest spending time with his children and family. He was
predeceased by his sister Theresa. He leaves his two children, his pride and joy, Stephenie and
Doug McSweeney of East Longmeadow; his mother JoAnne McSweeney of Springfield; siblings
Edward McSweeney and his wife Linda-Lee of Longmeadow, Walter McSweeney and his wife
Lynn of Wilbraham, James McSweeney and his wife Carol of Carver, MA and Mary
McSweeney of Springfield as well as several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited
to gather on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 from 4-7 PM at Forastiere Smith Funeral &
Cremation, 220 North Main Street, East Longmeadow. Funeral services will be held on
Thursday, January 25, 2018 at 12:15 PM at the funeral home followed by committal services and
military honors at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Agawam, MA at 2 PM.
